This weekend I visited Hirshhorn museum. It had an exhibition of films, called The Cinema Effect. It was a very thought-provoking experience since it challenged the conventional notion of art. The exhibition seemed a little radical as well since some movies didn't seem like they could belong in the categorization of art. There was for example, this balloon-looking material and the projector showed women's face on it. That lady wasn't only showing on the balloon but also making different facial expressions while talking to the audiences and making some noises. I wasn't sure if it was even a movie, thus not an art at all. But it definitely surpassed the boundary of art which many people have defined as a norm and expanded the settled perspective or experience. It really showed that there's no limitation on creativity, thus you can explore to the further. Especially we can explore the different medium to more effectively reveal your creativity and technology is undoubtedly one of the most significant tools artists might as well make the full use of when they create art.
Not only taking pictures but also editing pictures can be really powerful tools to convey your creativity. When I used color effect on my pictures, I felt more associated and satisfied with the pictures I’ve taken. I think technology is really useful for challenging the conventional definition of art and its limitation by enhancing and reinforcing its quality. It seems like a win-win strategy in a way to preserve the traditional form of art at the same time taking advantage of the privileges we have that we have an easy access to technology these days. Maximizing the potentials the technology seems a really important issue to reflect on.
